Storm that spawned tornado also causes flooding

Severe weather Sunday caused flooding in parts of Jackson, including Presidential Hills, as a storm brought rain and even spawned a tornado in Mississippi.

The City of Jackson said flooding in Presidential Hills is due to leaves and other debris clogging drains. Some residents said not enough has been done to fix the repeated problem.

One resident said on Sunday that she could not back her car out of the driveway because there was so much water.

"It's going to go in my car. I've had to miss work a couple days, couple times because the water go in the car," said Bobby Jackson.

According to 16 WAPT meteorologist Ethan Huston, two-and-a-half inches of rain fell in Jackson between Sunday and Monday morning. He said the rain is expected to continue through Tuesday.

City officials said it has come out to clear debris in the past few weeks and will be sending people out again to check on it.

There was no word on what the long-term plan was to keep the street from flooding.

There was also some street flooding just off of Highway 18 in Jackson. A 16 WAPT photographer captured video of a car that was stuck in the water. The driver had to climb out of the car, because the water was so high.

At least 60 people were hurt in this storm, according to the National Weather Service, that caused a tornado to touch down in Hattiesburg.
